COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT AT GENESIS ELEMENTARY
Genesis Elementary has a strong commitment to serving our local community and beyond. We are, at our heart, a community school, developed out of love for and a desire to serve our West Central Florida community. Our community service projects are led by our students and involve the entire student body. We participate in a variety of projects on a regular basis. We also stay connected to our community by regularly participating in community events, supporting those who make the New Port Richey, Trinity, and Pasco County region the incredible place it is to live, work, and raise a family.
Abba Farms Giving Tree
The “Giving Tree” is a school-wide program that provides clothing, food, and Christmas presents to Abba Farms. Abba Farms assists migrant farm workers and is located in San Antonio, FL. We set up Christmas trees in the office and library, full of tags labeled with the age and gender of the children of farm workers. Students and their families choose a tag, buy a new gift for the child described on the tag, wrap the gift, and place it under the tree. The Genesis Elementary family delivers the gifts to Abba Farms just before the beginning of Winter Break, along with the clothes and food we have collected.
Student Council Food Drives & Disaster Relief
Each year, the students at Genesis Elementary hold food drives. Each classroom collects non-perishable food that is then delivered to local organizations such as the Salvation Army. When natural disasters occur, such as 2017’s Hurricane Maria, Genesis Elementary also collects non-perishable food, clothing, and personal articles are collected as well.
The Cindy’s Pets organization delivers pet food and treats once a month to local seniors who participate in the Meals on Wheels program. Cindy’s Pets allows seniors who might otherwise have to give up their beloved pets or who would sacrifice their own food in order to keep those pets fed. Often, these companion pets are a homebound senior’s only “family,” so the goal of Cindy’s Pets is to provide nutritionally solid food for these animals. Genesis Elementary supports Cindy’s Pets through fundraisers and other area events.
Each year, Genesis School enters a float in the annual New Port Richey Chasco Fiesta Street Parade and the Chasco Fiesta Boat Parade in the spring. We are pleased to say that many of our floats have been awarded trophies which are very proudly displayed at Genesis Elementary!
