Week of: January 5, 2009

Current Happenings:

Welcome back and Happy 2009!  I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and a terrific vacation.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank you, again, for helping to make my Christmas so merry.

This will be a transitional type week for the students, not only coming back after a two week break, but also the weeks prior to the vacation were filled with many crafts and holiday type fun.  This week we will be getting back to business, so to speak.  Don’t worry; it will all be in a fun and motivational manner.

This week in Language Arts we will review lessons learned and then move on to lessons 25-27.  The students will learn the new spelling i_e for the sound /i/, and both the p and v spellings.  They will sound and blend new words using these spellings.  Two readers, The Shy Beast and Lee-Lee the Sheep will be sent home for reading over the next few weeks.

In math we begin with a new chapter, Numbers through 31.  It is important for children to be able to identify, write, and count (one to one correspondence) up through these higher numbers.

We will hopefully learn about the next five states, Colorado thru Georgia, where they are located on the map, as well as fun facts for each.  While in Science we will learn about the weather and the four seasons.
