Fifth Grade Mrs. Zuban’s Class We are on our way! Great Job Fifth Grade! Weeks of September 6 and September13
Spelling: We will be learning all the states and capitals for the first six weeks! Each week we will test ten states/capitals/ and the two-letter state abbreviation. A test on all fifty will be during the sixth week. Final tests will be Friday, September 10, for the third ten states, and Friday, September 17, on the fourth ten states. I will give each child study sheets in class.
Also in spelling we will be doing the spelling unit. We will take a multiple choice test each Thursday on the book words. We will also take a practice test on the ten states and capitals. Those children who receive an “A” on Thursday will be excused from the final test on Friday.
Math: We will begin our Math books with chapter one and will be learning about place value through billions, comparing and ordering numbers, decimals, ordering decimals, number patterns, and rounding numbers
Reading “Juggling”, “The Abacus Contest”, “S.O.R. Losers” and “Founders of the Children’s Rainforest”
Social Studies: Chapter Six, “New England Colonies” We should be completing this chapter on Tuesday, September 14. The test should be on Tuesday, September 21. Your child will have his/her notes in the red Social Studies folder. Along with the graphic overviews the vocabulary will also be tested.
Science: We will complete chapter one and take the chapter one test TOGETHER during the week of September 6. We will begin chapter two, “Plant Systems” the week of September 13. Did you hear about our edible cells?
English: Congratulations to the class for writing beautiful essays about summer vacations! Everyone worked hard and the effort was visible! Also, your child is writing a journal topic daily. This is my favorite item to grade! You will be able to view all the writing at our Open House!
We are working through Unit One in our English books. We should be taking a test on Unit One, Thursday, September 16.
Vocabulary tests will be scheduled every other Thursday. We did take the test on Unit One and Unit Two words will be tested Thursday, September 16.
The class is off and running! This group is eager to learn and it shows by their behavior and hard work! We are using the computers and enjoying them a lot!
