Upcoming Events:  

RESEARCH PROJECT PACKETS were sent home this past Friday. Please take a minute to go through the packet with your child. We will be completing our paper on the “Polar Bear” in class. Here are some important dates to make note of:

Note Cards………….Due February 17, 2012

Rough Drafts……….Due March 9, 2012

Final Drafts…………Due March 29, 2012

 

·          The 100th day of school will be on January 31, 2012! Third, Fourth, and Fifth grades would like for each student to bring dry dog food for our Cindy Pets food drive. We will continue collecting through the entire month of February.

·          FIELDTRIP: K-5 grades will be headed to the Genesis Prep School on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 to see the play Ben Franklin. We will be taking the Genesis bus.  If you would like to drive please let me know by Monday, January 30, 2012.

·          Thursday, February 2, 2012 will be the Fly-Up for K-4th grades. This is an opportunity for the students to get a sneak peek at what to expect for next year. They will get to meet their future teachers, see some exciting activities that they will participate in next year, and a chance to ask questions. 

·          On Friday, February 3, 2012 Third Grade will be on ONN, Owl News Network. It begins promptly at 9:10 a.m. and all parents invited to watch from the Third Grade classroom. Coffee and goodies will be provided by our Parent Group, we hope to see all of you there.

·          Tuesday, February 7, 2012 – Sertoma Hearing/Prevent Blindness screening (Please return the form ASAP if you are interested in participating in this free screening!)

·          Friday, February 17, 2012 – Progress Reports go home and it’s a NOON DISMISSAL!

In Math this week we will be continuing to work with our multiplication facts. Please continue to practice them at home, this will make learning division facts that much easier. Speed and accuracy are the kay! Practice, Practice, Practice!!!

 

We have started Unit 5 in English this week. We will be focusing on, “Capitalization and Punctuation.” We will also continue working on our compositions and writing with more details to capture the reader’s interest. Currently, we are working on an composition about being an explorer and the exciting challeneges that we may face a long the way.

 

In Science we have started Chapter 7, “Protecting Earth’s Resources.” We will be learning about our natural resources and the difference between renewable resources and nonrenewable resources. As well as learning about all the alternate eneregy resources that are available today!

 

In History we will be working on a project about explorers which we will present on the news this Friday. We hope that all of you will be able to make it!

Reading Logs:  Please remember that Reading Logs count toward the Reading Comprehension grade on the report card and are due (signed by parent) on the first day of the school week!  Students must read for 20 minutes each night.
